This study was carried out among 100 veterinarians randomly selected from a total of approximately 1000 veterinarians in North Kordofan State. Questionnaire and field surveys were used to collect data on the role of the government veterinary extension in the dissemination of the required technical knowledge and skills to the pastoralists in Um-Ruwaba Locality. The collected data was statistically analyzed using percentages and frequency distribution as well as ranking. Results showed that 92% of the respondents agreed that, the government veterinary extension has failed to disseminate the required technical knowledge and skills to the pastoralists in Um-Ruwaba Locality. Lack of adequate finance  and logistic support were found to be the main constraints that impeded the government veterinary extension from disseminating the required technical knowledge and skills. Ninety nine percent of the respondents affirmed the suitability of using the paravet as an extension worker for the pastoralists in Um-Ruwaba Locality. Membership of the paravets in the pastorals communities was considered as main reason that makes the paravet suitable for an extension work while selection of the paravets from knowledgeable persons among the pastoralists was ranked as the best way of promoting the paravet to be an extension worker. The study revealed that, the government veterinary extension has failed to disseminate the required technical knowledge and skills to the pastoralists in Um-Ruwaba Locality in North Kordofan State.Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations can be drawn: Federal Ministry of Animal Resources and the government veterinary authorities at states level must seek ways and means to implement the paravets projects in different pastoral areas to reduce the communication gap between the pastoralists and the government veterinary extension, coordination of efforts is highly needed to effectively make use of the paravet concept and its implementation,  the paravets must be provided with work facilities, (i.e., veterinary kits, drugs, audiovisuals, bicycles) to warrant their efficient performance among the pastoralists, the paravets must be offered regular incentives to encourage them for more achievements, Federal Ministry of Animal Resources in collaboration with government veterinary authorities at states level have to develop plans and programmes to provide adequate and suitable veterinary extension services to the pastoralists and to warrant efficient and sustainable performance of the extension work and to secure provision of good coverage of the extension services for all groups of the pastoralists an adequate and sustainable finance coupled with an adequate logistic support must be provided.
