Impact of Translation on University Students Communicative Competence

Abstract


Translation is a good means for producing competent English learners. The study aimed at investigating the impact of translation on students communicative competence. The experimental method was adopted and a group of 40 students was selected randomly from the department of English Faculty of Education- Hantoub as an experimental sample. A pre/posttest with respect to a designed course of translation(Experimental factor) are used to assess the impact of translation on students competence. The study revealed that translation is an effective technique  for developing the communicative competence as it helps students to communicate effectively, increase cultural insight and arouse their motivation. It is recommended that teachers should encourage practicing translation and interpretation in their classes to develop the communicative skills.
